Texas License to Carry Handgun Class

Taught by an experienced instructor who has been certified by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

What is it?

The course required to obtain a Texas License to Carry Handgun (formerly called a Concealed Handgun License).

Cost

$80 for the class, $15 of that covers your range fee.

When & Where

Most classes are taught in Houston at our conference room, with the shoot test at a nearby range.  Private or corporate on-site classes can be arranged.  When is up to you and the instructor's schedule.

Class Length

That class must be between 4 and 6 hours long, not including range or class break time. Our class normally runs from 4.5 to 5 hours in length.

You will need

Fifty (50) rounds of commercial ammunition of appropriate caliber for your handgun [.22 is now allowed by the State]. Attire - no open toed shoes or low-cut tops, it's a safety issue. A ball cap is recommended for the range portion of the class.

Rental guns are available if needed.

Prerequisite

The Texas LTC is not a 'how to' or introductory class. You are expected to already be familiar and moderately proficient with your firearm, know how to load a firearm, and follow the basic rules of handgun safety.

If you do not qualify or feel that you need additional assistance, private instruction can be arranged.

 

Texas School Safety Certification

Taught by an experienced instructor or instructors who have been certified by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

What is it?

A course for certification of school district personnel to carry a concealed handgun on school grounds, under the LTC law, as authorized by their school district.  Certification means nothing without specific authorization from the district that employs you!

When, Where, and Cost

Course offered by prior arrangement only.  Class size limited to a maximum of twelve students, requiring one instructor per every six students.

Prerequisite

A valid Texas License to Carry. Employment by a Texas school district. Ability to shoot 90% on the Texas LTC course of fire pre-test.

 

Introduction to Handguns

Taught by a multiple-course certified NRA instructor.

What is it?

This is an introduction to handguns course for individuals, couples, or small groups. Students will learn how a firearm works and how to handle it safely and correctly. Students will be in a classroom setting for the first two-thirds of the class and then transition to the range for the final segment.

Cost

$70 for the class, $15 of that covers your range fee.

When & Where

This class is normally taught in our conference room in Houston with the shooting portion at a nearby range.

Class Length

This is a 3 hour class but can be shortened or lengthened as needed.

You will need

A handgun, 100 rounds of commercial ammunition for the handgun. Attire - no open toed shoes or low-cut tops. A ball cap is recommended for the range portion of the class.

If you do not yet own a firearm, we can provide a rental for instructional purposes and provide ammunition for an additional fee.

For ladies only classes we have a female instructor available to lead or assist if it is your preference.

Prerequisite

Be willing to learn. Minors may take the class after consulting with the instructor and must be accompanied by a responsible adult.

 

Private Handgun and Rifle classes

Available by special arrangement.

 

Range Coaching

Coaching from an experienced NRA Instructor, Texas LTC Instructor, and NRA Distinguished Expert.

What is it?

An hour of personalized shooting instruction. You'll meet with the instructor for a thorough safety review and discuss your shooting experience.  On the range, you'll engage in a series of shooting exercises and instruction designed to help you meet your goals.

Cost

$45 - student pays their own range fee.

When & Where

Scheduled as needed.  Weekdays or evenings work best. Where is normally Shiloh Shooting Range.

Length

1 hour

You will need

A handgun and at least 100 rounds of commercial 'white box' ammo, no reloads.

Prerequisite

You should already know the basic safety rules and have a passing familiarity with the firearm you will be shooting.
